THE High Court has awarded $.8 million in compensation to a public servant who was bypassed for promotion by the Public Service Commission (PSC) in favour of a national scholarship winner who was less experienced for the position.
In upholding a constitutional claim on Thursday that was brought against the Office of the Attorney General by Wendy Ann Lewis, Justice Joan Charles held that Lewis' right to equality of treatment from a public authority was breached.
The judge also found there was no justifiable aim in promoting a national scholarship winner ahead of similarly qualified but less experienced public servants.
