(Kaieteur News) – A total of 1.1 million cyber-attacks were recorded in Guyana during the first six months of 2026, with the country now considered a prime target for hackers globally as its economy continues to grow.
The figures were disclosed by Martina Johnson, Public Relations Consultant of the Guyana Police Force (GPF), who hosted the Building Cyber Resilient Guyana 2026 symposium on Wednesday.
Johnson said the figures came from one of GPF’s partners, Brava Fortinet, who reported the attacks based on its evaluation of Guyana for the first half of the year. “That tells you that as the economy grows faster, more attacks will happen because people want access to police information, government information, company information, investors information and so Guyana is now a prime target for hackers globally. Imagine 1.1 million attacks in six months, when comparatively in 2007, we didn’t even have 500,000 attacks for the whole year,” she said.
