Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has reported a 46 per cent decline in murders over the past two years, a day after two women were shot dead at a beauty spa in Couva.
In a Facebook post yesterday, Persad-Bissessar said the figures showed “real progress” in the Government’s fight against violent crime, while acknowledging that more work was needed to improve public safety.
“The numbers show a decline from 523 murders in October 28, 2024, to 305 in Oct 2025 and now to 280 in Oct 2026 — a reduction of approximately 46%,” she wrote.
