POLICE Complaints Authority (PCA) director David West has said the organisation's handling of police-involved shootings continues to be hampered by delays in receiving critical information and the absence of legal powers for its investigators.
The Express reached out to West yesterday following a statement made on Tuesday by Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles, who called on the Government to implement legislative reform to strengthen the PCA and to mandate the Police Service to use body-worn cameras.
In a social media post, Beckles called on Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to model the PCA more in line with its Jamaican counterpart, the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) which allows features such as on-scene site evidence preservation and access by its personnel immediately following a police-involved killing.
