Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles has accused Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar of failing to address what Beckles described as growing public distrust in police operations.
She yesterday called for urgent legislative reform to strengthen the Police Complaints Authority (PCA) and mandate the use of body-worn cameras by law enforcement officers.
Beckles, in a social media post yesterday, urged the Government to model the PCA after Jamaica’s Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), arguing that stronger investigative powers were needed in cases involving police killings.
