Police Complaints Authority (PCA) Director David West has pushed back against public calls for his removal, reaffirming the agency’s independence and its legal responsibility to act without fear or favour.
This follows a post circulating online from a "small" group of concerned citizens, who claim that West’s recent public statements, particularly those issued in the wake of the State of Emergency declared on July 18, show a lack of balance and support for law enforcement. The group has begun preparing an online petition demanding his dismissal.
The PCA, however, stood firm, stating that its comments, specifically a release dated July 23, which expressed concern over a rise in police-involved fatal shootings, were fully within the bounds of its mandate under the Police Complaints Authority Act.
