Judge refuses request by State attorneys to remain anonymous

A request by the State for its attorneys to remain anonymous throughout judicial review proceedings brought by Jason Beetam was refused by Justice Vigel Paul, who found that the application did not meet the requirements for departing from the principle of open justice.

The ruling was delivered on July 23 in the High Court, in a case which involved Beetam, Cpl Morris and the Attorney General of Trinidad and Tobago.

The Solicitor General had written to the court on July 15 seeking permission for the State attorneys in the matter to remain fully anonymous.
