CANU seized 11 firearms, 154kg of narcotics between July and August

(Kaieteur News) – The Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) has seized for the months of July and August this year 11 firearms and 154 kg of narcotics.

This bring the year’s total so far to 46 firearms and a total of 673kg of narcotics according to information on the organisation’s website. Giving a breakdown of the narcotics CANU said that it seized 215kg of cocaine, 456 kg of cannabis and 2+kg of NPS, which comprised of crystal meth and ecstasy.

In a statement back in June CANU updated the public that for the first half of 2025 it seized 519.49 Kilogrammes of narcotics, 35 illegal firearms, and 699 rounds of ammunition. In what the organisation termed as its “most significant mid-year seizure totals in the agency’s history” it explained that this was made possible due to operations across multiple operational areas nationwide.
