Despite ongoing discolouration in parts of St Lucy, the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) has assured residents that the water flowing from their taps is safe to drink and meets World Health Organisation (WHO) standards.

BWA Manager of Water Resources Alex Ifill said the only standard being breached relates to the water’s colour, which he said does not pose a health risk.

“The only thing that this breaches is the colour limit,” Ifill said during a site update at the Alleynedale Pumping Station on Tuesday. “Is it safe? It’s safe to drink… Colour is not a health-related standard in water, but it is a standard to make people comfortable.”
