THE pan fraternity yesterday bid farewell to one of its greatest exponents, virtuoso pannist and Desperadoes musical director Robert Greenidge, whose music, humility and commitment to the instrument were celebrated at his funeral.

Greenidge, 79, died on June 9 ­after a long illness.

The service was marked by emotional musical tributes, including performances by pan legends Dr Ray Holman and Len “Boogsie” Sharpe, who broke down in tears while performing in tribute to his longtime friend. After his performance, Sharpe continued to cry off stage, repeating: “He was my friend.”
