Silent fireworks will be used during this year’s Independence Day celebrations as the Government seeks to reduce the impact of the traditional displays on people living near the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain.

The fireworks display will form part of the evening’s cultural showcase, which will begin at 5 p.m. on August 31.

Speaking at a news conference at Temple Court, along Abercromby Street, Port of Spain, yesterday, Jerome Lewis, communications strate­gist at the Ministry of Culture and Community Development, said the programme would include pan, calypso, soca, chutney, tassa, folk and other cultural presentations.
