The Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice has con­demned the al­leged ac­tion of a Woman Po­lice Con­sta­ble, who was sched­uled to ap­pear be­fore a Mas­ter of the High Court at the Ch­agua­nas Po­lice Sta­tion yes­ter­day af­ter be­ing charged with three counts of Lar­ce­ny by Trick. The WPC is ac­cused of re­ceiv­ing over $35,000 to speed up the process for grant­i­ng a li­cence to car­ry a gun.

In a state­ment is­sued yes­ter­day, the TTPS said WPC Misty Mitchell was for­mal­ly charged at the Ca­roni Po­lice Sta­tion by Ag Sgt Joe­field on Thurs­day. Po­lice said in­ves­ti­ga­tions be­gan af­ter a re­port of lar­ce­ny by trick was filed on Ju­ly 23, fol­low­ing al­le­ga­tions that Mitchell had de­fraud­ed a man by promis­ing to ex­pe­dite his Firearm User’s Li­cence (FUL) ap­pli­ca­tion.

Po­lice claimed that in March this year, Mitchell al­leged­ly ob­tained $35,000 from the vic­tim un­der false pre­tences. She lat­er de­mand­ed an ad­di­tion­al $15,000, which was arranged to be col­lect­ed on Ju­ly 26. On that day, of­fi­cers from the Pro­fes­sion­al Stan­dards Bu­reau (PSB), with sup­port from a spe­cialised unit, car­ried out a sting op­er­a­tion at a Ch­agua­nas ser­vice sta­tion. Mitchell was ar­rest­ed and searched, and $2,000 al­leged­ly pro­vid­ed by the vic­tim was re­cov­ered. She was tak­en to the Ca­roni Po­lice Sta­tion and re­leased on the ad­vice of Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions Roger Gas­pard, SC, pend­ing fur­ther en­quiries.
