The recent appointment of Justice Ronnie Boodoosingh as Chief Justice has prompted concerns about the process, with a former independent senator and the Law Association of TT (LATT) both questioning the legitimacy of the consultation and the speed with which the decision was made.
Five weeks after revealing he intended to retire after serving as Chief Justice for 17 years, Ivor Archie, on October 21, announced his intention to retire on October 22.
The constitution states any appointment to replace Archie must be done after consultation with the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader.
