Independent Senator Anthony Vieira yesterday cautioned that the relocation of high-risk prisoners must be a “stop gap” temporary measure, stressing they retain constitutional rights, including the presumption of innocence.
Vieira was speaking yesterday during an extraordinary sitting of the Senate on the debate of a motion to approve the Prisons (No 2) Order, 2025.
Vieira, who supported the order, said he did so as a matter of principle, describing it as a necessary response to a clear and present danger.
