Roofs go flying, power lines down in Grande lightning storm

Heavy rains, explosive lightning and strong winds caused widespread damage in Sangre Grande yesterday, blowing off at least eight roofs and bringing down a communications cell tower which in turn pulled down several overhead electricity lines along Ojoe Road.

Local Government Minister Kadijah Ameen said eight roofs were blown off in the area as the severe weather swept through the community.

The weather also disrupted electricity supplies, leaving the entire Ojoe Road area without power.
