AUDITOR General Jaiwantie Ramdass has issued a qualified opinion on Trinidad and Tobago’s 2025 Public Accounts, citing discrepancies involving billions of dollars in tax revenue and unsupported Government spending that cast doubt on the accuracy of the country’s financial statements.
In her report, Ramdass said $36.56 billion in tax revenue could not be verified because of unreconciled differences across key accounting systems, including Treasury records and Inland Revenue Division reports.
She also found that $1.59 billion in expenditure, or about 2.43% of total government spending, lacked supporting documentation, preventing verification of whether the payments were properly made and recorded.
