Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Farley Augustine said an investigation has been launched into the overseas travel of THA officials after this was flagged in the Auditor General’s report for the period October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024.
The report said that Assembly Legislature rates used to calculate hotel allowances and daily allowances were not in keeping with the Minister of Finance Circular.
“This resulted in amounts being paid in excess of what should have been paid to officers selected for travel. An additional allowance to cover ground transportation was paid to certain officers together with the prescribed flat allowance which covers airport taxes and airport ground transportation. Authorisation for the additional allowance was not produced for audit,” the Auditor General said in the report.
