“WE are feeling a lot safer. We are seeing more police. My co-workers are feeling safer.”
So said a Pita Pit employee after Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro launched a 24-hour tactical and canine police presence at Piarco International Airport, on Tuesday.
After the security intervention, Guevarro and Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander toured the airport on Tuesday. It was felt the move was mandatory since armed bandits had stormed the Pita Pit kiosk inside the concourse and escaped with cash on June 6. On April 17, the murder at the airport of Akim Quash, 34, who had just arrived on an international flight, traumatised people and ignited public concerns and fears about personal safety. No one has been held for the killing to date.
