(Kaieteur News) – President Irfaan Ali on Saturday night announced plans to restrict the importation of all types of vaping products into Guyana, citing growing concerns over their widespread and unregulated use, particularly among children and young people.
In a statement delivered via his Facebook page, President Ali said Finance Minister, Dr. Ashni Singh would soon sign an order under the Customs Act, Chapter 82:01, imposing the restrictions, with exceptions requiring approval from the Minister of Health, the National Tobacco Control Council or the Tobacco Control Board, as specified in the order.
The President said the measure was intended to address the growing public health risks associated with vaping while allowing legitimate medicinal, therapeutic and alternative applications to continue under the supervision of the relevant health authorities. “This measure is necessary in light of growing concerns over the widespread and unregulated importation, sale, and use of vapes and vaping products in Guyana,” the Guyanese leader said.
