(Kaieteur News) – President Irfaan Ali’s announcement that the Government will restrict the importation of vaping products into Guyana is a welcome intervention in a public health problem that has been allowed to grow for too long.
With growing concerns about the use of these products among schoolchildren and teenagers, the proposed restrictions are a necessary step towards protecting a generation increasingly exposed to potentially harmful substances. But the Government must recognise that the problem extends beyond imports. It is also about the ease with which children can access these products, the businesses selling them and the apparent gaps in enforcement that allow young people to obtain vapes with little difficulty.
