(Kaieteur News) – Head of Head of the Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Fazil Karimbaksh has denied that a voice heard on a taped recording is his asking to withdraw allegations against him in exchange for $5M.
Karimbaksh through his lawyer, Rizwaun Mohamed went as far as to say that the recording was AI-generated. “We act for Mr. Fazil Karimbaksh concerning an audio recording circulating on social media and attributed it to him, which is AI-generated. Our client vehemently rejects the recording as an authentic account of a conversation involving him and denies making the statements attributed to him. The said AI generated material falsely reproduces his voice,” Mohamed said in press statement. “Our position is unequivocal: the allegations against Mr. Karimbaksh must be addressed through a thorough, fair and impartial investigation, free from interference, speculation and prejudgment. Neither repetition nor widespread circulation of the AI generated audio recording establishes authenticity. Our client expressly reserves all rights and remedies available to protect his name, character and reputation, including the institution of proceedings against any person or entity responsible for creating, publishing or disseminating the disputed material, should the evidence establish a lawful basis for such action.
In deference to the ongoing investigation, we will refrain from further substantive public comment on the recording pending its proper examination,” the statement concluded.
