Industrial Court president Heather Seale yesterday called for an upgrade of the court, as well as increased space and the filling of vacancies.
Speaking at the special sitting of the court for the opening of the 2025-2026 law term at the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts—the first opening in San Fernando—Seale spoke of repairs and upgrade of its Port of Spain court which she said are long overdue and remain a challenge.
She said they remain hopeful that, in the new financial year, the court will receive sufficient funding to start some much-needed work to upgrade the court. “The staff and occasionally our judges are not as comfortable as they should be. I sat in awe (on Monday during the ceremonial opening the Judiciary’s law term) listening to what seemed to me to be the many ongoing projects of the Judiciary for improvement in its physical facilities. While relatively speaking we are a small court, we do have similar needs and now we have outgrown our space,” she said.
