Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander says the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service needed to strengthen its investigative capabilities, particularly its ability to solve murders and secure convictions, as he acknowledged that homicide investigations had for years been limited to basic investigative work.
Alexander said the Government was seeking international assistance and investing in training, technology and other resources to improve the work of investigators, while acknowledging that the Forensic Science Centre was currently overwhelmed.
He was speaking on TTT’s Focus programme on Saturday, where he was asked about the reported 46% cent reduction in murders and the interventions which had contributed to the decline.
