African Emancipation Day “recalls a hard-won victory”, President Christine Kangaloo has said.
In her Emancipation Day message to the nation yesterday, Kangaloo said that “emancipation was a victory for the human spirit”.
“This year, that message has a special immediacy. For many months, our country has lived under emergency arrangements adopted in the interests of public safety and security. Such periods remind us safety and liberty are not opposing ambitions, but solemn obligations that must be held together.”
