Police continue to hold Mohamed’s phones

(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Police Force continues to hold personal property, including electronic devices, belonging to Leader of the Opposition Azruddin Mohamed, as well as three of his staff members, following an investigation into alleged unauthorised drone activity.

The developments follow a sequence of events that began on the evening of Thursday, September 3, 2026, when Mohamed and several associates were detained near Leonora, Region Three. According to legal counsel and official statements from the Office of the Leader of the Opposition, Mohamed was initially arrested at approximately 19:00 hrs on September 3 while responding to information concerning alleged corruption involving a property adjacent to the President’s private residence. Also detained during the police operation were Members of Parliament Dr. Gordon Barker and Dr. Andre Lewis, Regional Councillor Sean Nelson, and three staff members identified as Eugene Thorne, Mario Mohamed, and Dwayne Ross.

Mohamed was subsequently released on Thursday night, only to be re-arrested at approximately 23:00 hrs while walking along the roadway, before being released a second time. Despite his release, police have retained several items of his personal property, including two cellular phones, a Samsung Galaxy S26 and an iPhone 16 Pro Max, along with a Toyota Land Cruiser (PAD 4000), a Toyota Allion (PXX 5300), a watercraft, and personal documents including Mohamed’s driver’s licence, identification card, and a family member’s laptop computer.
