Leader of Government Business in the House of Representatives, Barry Padarath, says there will be no pussyfooting around the president of Venezuela and the issues surrounding that country, as he praised T&T’s Prime Minister for taking a very bold and courageous position.
Last Tuesday, the Venezuelan president claimed that a group of men carrying “weapons of war” were caught trying to breach the Venezuelan border from Trinidad. Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar responded that her Government had no evidence of such and she warned Venezuela that any illegal incursion by any unidentified vessel into this country’s waters will be met with “deadly force”.
The following day, Venezuela issued a communique, calling Persad-Bissessar’s response “irate and unjustified” and said that it could compromise relations between the two countries.
