A 19-year-old construction worker of Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara (WBD), is now in custody while the Police are on the hunt for three others following a robbery committed on a 62-year-old fisherman and his family in the wee hours of Friday. Preliminary investigations revealed that the wife of the fisherman was sitting on the veranda of their home when she was approached by the suspects, one of whom pointed a handgun at her and threatened her.
The woman raised an alarm, prompting her husband to investigate. The suspects subsequently entered the house and ordered the occupants – the fisherman, his 53-year-old wife, and their two sons, ages 25 and 27 – to lie on the ground as they demanded cash.
During the incident, the younger son was reportedly struck to his forehead with a firearm after attempting to resist, causing him to sustain an injury.
