The Ministry of Defence has confirmed that Trinidad and Tobago’s airspace remains open, despite disruptions to U.S. commercial flights following military strikes in Venezuela that led to the reported capture of President Nicolás Maduro.
In a statement, Defence Minister Wayne Sturge said the nation’s airports and airspace continue to operate normally, and there is no need for public concern regarding flights within or over Trinidad and Tobago.
The announcement follows the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) ban on American commercial flights in Venezuelan airspace, imposed amid escalating military operations. Several airlines, including KLM, United Airlines, American Airlines, JetBlue, and Amerijet Cargo, have cancelled flights that would pass near Venezuelan airspace.
