Hours after US President Donald Trump yesterday took to social media urging airlines to avoid the airspace above and around Venezuela, Minister of Defence Wayne Sturge reaffirmed that Trinidad and Tobago’s airspace remains open.
Following his prior warning that the US could move to land-based strikes to curb drug trafficking throughout the Caribbean region, Trump, in a post to his TruthSocial platform yesterday, stated, “To all Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers, please consider the airspace above and surrounding Venezuela to be closed in its entirety. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
He did not elaborate on why such a statement was made.
