After decades of living in the shadow of the Forres Park landfill, residents of surrounding communities gathered at the Springvale Community Centre on Tuesday expecting relief from a new Government focused on community upliftment and quality of life.
Instead, they were told the controversial dump, linked by residents to illness, pollution and falling property values, will not be closed but expanded.
The decree was that the Solid Waste Management Company Ltd (SWMCOL) would go ahead with its plan to implement an engineered landfill adjacent to the existing one.
