A security officer who faced a criminal charge for more than 27 years, before being acquitted, has filed a lawsuit against the State.
Cecil Felming is claiming he was maliciously prosecuted for the offence of robbery with violence.
Documents filed on Monday, by defence attorney Kiran Panday against the Attorney General, state that criminal proceedings remained outstanding against Felming from July 1997, until his acquittal on April 2, 2025. “Throughout that period, the claimant remained accused of a grave indictable offence and remained exposed to the prospects of trial, conviction and imprisonment and to the stigma and anxiety attendant upon a continuing accusation of robbery with violence,” the documents said.
