Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro has defended the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service’s (TTPS) overtime expenditure of almost $800 million, saying the figure represented payments over two years and that the service had generally spent about $400 million annually.
On Thursday, it was disclosed that the TTPS paid $793.89 million in overtime claims between January 2024 and August 2026, with payments in the first eight months of this year already exceeding the totals recorded for each of the previous two years.
The figures were disclosed in a response to a Freedom of Information application submitted on August 20 by attorney Keron Ramkhalwhan, on behalf of Vishal Persad.
