Government: Construction Approval Delays Cost $100 Million A Year

Government estimates that delays associated with obtaining approval from the County Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) cost applicants approximately $100 million annually.
It is now proposing amendments to the Public Health Bill to remove the routine approval of the CMOH, arguing that the change could bring forward $1.1 billion in construction spending and support up to 6,000 jobs.
Presented in the House of Representatives, Minister of Planning, Economic Affairs and Development Dr Kennedy Swaratsingh argued that the CMOH is duplicating checks already carried out by other agencies, creating another layer in an already lengthy approval process.
