Stroke victim Bachan Samlal, 60, of Sand Hill Trace, Barrackpore, died Sunday afternoon after his home was destroyed in a fire.

His ex-common-law wife, Shirley Rampersad, 63, reported the fire.

According to Rampersad, she had left her home around 5:20 p.m. that day to pick breadfruit about 200 feet away. She saw the house engulfed in flames and immediately contacted the Barrackpore Police Station.
