Region Eight’s Tiger Hill a 'disaster waiting to happen' - Duncan

(Kaieteur News) – Opposition Member of Parliament Sherod Duncan, has issued a warning to national authorities regarding the alarming state of the Tiger Hill roadway and bridge, describing the critical infrastructure as a “disaster waiting to happen” that gravely threatens the lives of commuters and the economic stability of the region.

The MP’s assessment follows an on-site visit to Mahdia, where he travelled to Tiger Hill alongside Municipal Councillors Daniel Fraser and Rapha “Blue” Corbin and their team. What the delegation encountered, Duncan reported, was an escalating public safety crisis along a critical transit corridor that connects Mahdia with Mango Landing and supports the everyday movement of residents, miners, essential goods, and emergency services.

Describing the immediate hazards along the route, Duncan stated, “What we saw should alarm every responsible authority: a steep, narrow and severely eroded roadway where motorists risk losing control, particularly during rainfall, and slipping into the ravine below.” He further highlighted that “sections of the road have deteriorated around culverts, leaving large openings that further endanger commuters,” turning an already difficult passage into a continuous hazard.
