(Kaieteur News) – Advancing tourism, introducing artificial intelligence (AI) into municipal operations and adopting modern management practices were among the key areas of focus at the recently concluded 28th InterAmerican Conference of Mayors and Local Authorities in Miami-Dade, Florida, United States.
New Amsterdam Mayor Wainwright McIntosh, who attended the two-day conference from September 29 to 30, 2026, said the discussions also highlighted challenges shared by municipalities across the Caribbean and beyond, including limited financial resources and weak channels of communication between local authorities and central governments.
Speaking with Kaieteur News, McIntosh said the challenges facing New Amsterdam were not unique. He said even municipalities in more developed territories grapple with similar constraints.
