Police officers conducting special operations inside closed areas will have enhanced search powers under the Special Operations Bill, 2026.
An officer can search any person, vehicle or place without a warrant where there is reasonable suspicion that an offence is being committed, has been committed or is about to be committed.
As far as reasonably practicable, the owner, occupier or person in possession must be allowed to observe searches of premises or vehicles. Women must be searched by women police officers.
