(Kaieteur News) – It is amazing the efforts that Vice President Jagdeo would go to for keeping power. Even by his own standards, he outdid himself. Holding out a political olive branch at a solemn time. Jagdeo is not some junior minister, he is his party’s leader, an unmatched power in his group. He has full control, and what he says goes. The PPP and PNC must recognise new circumstances and change. They refuse to do so, and they go down to extinction.

We never knew Jagdeo to care for the political prospects of others. But he is right. The PNC of today is not like the PNC of before. Many of its longtime supporters have lost faith in its leadership, the party’s direction. What is it for? What are its priorities? How can the party be a force to reckon with, considering its humiliating losses at the last polls, and its loss of precious human capital, its veterans and young blood? No entity, much less a political party that seeks to be respected and competitive, can win the hearts of the electorate, when the blows it has absorbed are weighed. We at this publication think that if a poll were to be taken today, it would indicate that the PNC is not doing too well. It does not feature among the top choices of the voters. How does a major political group recover from where it has stumbled, fallen? There was Vice President Jagdeo with his rescue operation.
