TWO FEMALE Special Reserve Police (SRP) officers were among four persons detained earlier this morning for questioning in what police sources believe is a major breakthrough in an HDC-related scam, which allegedly defrauded several people of hundreds of thousands of dollars over the past two years.
Senior police sources told The Express that in a joint operation involving the Fraud Squad, Special Investigations Unit, and the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB) that began around 2 a.m. and ended shortly before 7 a.m., two female SRPS from the homicide department who were now working in another unit were apprehended at their homes across Trinidad, as well as a male civilian employed by Angostura Limited and another female civilian.
Sources say that the four had allegedly taken money from several persons, promising to fast-track their HDC applications to obtain a home. The decision to apprehend the suspects came after police consulted with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Roger Gaspard, about the matter last week.
