WIN Region 5 Councillor resigns

…exit on hold pending meeting with regional chairman

A We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) Councillor on the Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice) Regional Democratic Council (RDC) has submitted her resignation, but the move has since been placed in abeyance pending a meeting with Regional Chairman Recardo Phillips. The development involving Councillor Marlise Chester-Morrison was revealed during Thursday’s statutory meeting of the RDC after Councillor Alene Seraphine-Kendall questioned what had become of a resignation letter submitted to the Council. Earlier, when the meeting reached the agenda item dealing with notices, Phillips indicated that there were no notices at that time and moved on to the next item. Later in the meeting, Seraphine-Kendall told the Council that a resignation letter had been submitted to the Clerk of the RDC and said she had expected it to be read. She questioned why it had not been read but did not identify the councillor who had submitted the letter. In responding, Phillips identified Chester-Morrison and confirmed that the administration was in receipt of her resignation letter. “However, she subsequently contacted me and wanted a meeting with me before…” Phillips said, pausing before continuing.

“So, she has put the resignation in abeyance until that meeting,” the Regional Chairman said. Phillips gave no further details about the requested meeting or when it would take place.
