THE Tobago House of Assembly (THA) faces a significant payout of over $4.3 million to 13 former employees whose contracts were terminated following a change in the Assembly’s administration in 2022.
The Industrial Court, in a ruling on April 30, sided with the Advocate Trade Union (ATU), which represented the workers in a trade dispute.
The court’s decision, finalised with specific compensation orders on Monday, mandates the THA to compensate the individuals for unused vacation leave, the unfulfilled portions of their contracts, and pro-rated gratuity based on time actually worked. The total sum calculated for the 13 former employees stands at $4,316,510.61.
