Ex-Hostage: "SoE restrictions a threat to democracy"

DEMOCRACY in Trinidad and Tobago is under threat, not by guns but by silence, activist Wendell Eversley has said.
He called on citizens and fellow activists to defend the country's democratic freedoms ahead of the 36th anniversary of the July 27, 1990 attempted coup.
Speaking during a news conference near the Eternal Flame outside the Red House in Port of Spain yesterday, Eversley drew parallels between the failed coup and what he described as present- day restrictions on civil liberties under the current state of emergency (SoE).
