Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles has called on the Government and all national leaders to recommit to the Republic’s founding democratic principles, while warning against actions that could undermine public trust and civil liberties.
In a statement marking the 36th anniversary of the July 27, 1990 coup attempt, Beckles referenced “events which unfolded just recently in T&T” as she urged leaders to uphold democratic values.
“As we reflect on this solemn anniversary, as well as events which unfolded just recently in T&T, I call upon the Government and all national leaders to recommit to the founding democratic principles of our Republic,” she said.
