The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has addressed what it describes as considerable public discussion surrounding the deployment of mobile police units, clarifying that the units are not a new addition to the Service and defending their strategic value as part of the country’s anti-crime efforts.

In a media release issued Friday, August 7, the TTPS said mobile units have existed within the Service for a number of years. As with any technology, improvements have been made over time, and in keeping with the Government’s strategic direction for law enforcement, the decision was taken to procure new micro-police units, upgraded versions that maintain mobility while offering greater operational capacity.

According to the TTPS, each unit is designed to be moved seamlessly throughout the country with only minimal foundation construction required. The new generation of units can house more officers and more advanced technology than previous, outdated models. While the Service said it would be unwise to reveal too much operational detail, it described the enhanced capacity as a significant step forward.
