Recent drone footage capturing a U.S. military installation near ANR Robinson Airport has prompted an official investigation to determine the operator of the drone. Defence Minister Wayne Sturge stated that the publication of such footage threatens national security and exposes citizens to potential harm.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed that drones were flown within the 5-kilometre no-fly zone of both Piarco International Airport and ANR Robinson Airport, contrary to claims that the drones were operating outside restricted areas. Officials highlighted the risk of collisions with commercial aircraft, which could result in mass casualties.
The Ministry warned that obtaining and disseminating footage of military installations endangers national security and is being investigated to prevent further violations. Drone operators who breach regulations could face legal action under the current State of Emergency.
