FIVE years after proposed regulations to tighten oversight of domestic cooking gas cylinders were left on hold, the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries (MEEI) has instructed that the draft rules be reviewed and updated “as a matter of urgency” following a string of deadly LPG gas tank explosions across the country.
At least four people have died in separate home explosions caused by leaking gas tanks between April and October.
The most recent victim, Penal resident Bevaughn Joseph, 28, suffered burns to 80% of his body after a gas cylinder exploded at his home on October 13. He died in hospital four days later. A funeral service will be held for him today.
