Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has assured law-abiding citizens that her Government will honour its general election campaign promise to make it easier for them to legally acquire firearms, with amendments to the Firearms Act now being finalised.
Persad-Bissessar said yesterday the legislative changes are expected to be advanced within the coming months, reaffirming one of the United National Congress (UNC) administration’s major crime-fighting commitments.
“The Government is currently finalising amendments to the Firearms Act to make access to legal firearms easier for law-abiding citizens. We acknowledge it as one of our main campaign promises and are prepared to keep that promise in the coming months,” she stated.
