OPPOSITION Senator Foster Cummings has accused the Government of shutting down numerous youth development and training programmes, arguing that young people had been deprived of opportunities to acquire skills for employment and self-employment.
Speaking at a PNM news conference at the Opposition’s office in Port of Spain on Thursday, Cummings criticised Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Phillip Watts, saying he had failed to outline plans for youth development during his contribution to the budget debate.
Cummings said the programmes had been established to provide training and opportunities for young people, including those who were neither employed nor enrolled in formal education or training.
