Pope Leo XIV has said there should be no tolĀerĀance in the Catholic Church for any type of abuse ā sexĀuĀal, spirĀiĀtuĀal or abuse of auĀthorĀiĀty ā and called for ātransĀparĀent processĀesā to creĀate a culĀture of preĀvenĀtion across the church.
Leo made his first pubĀlic comĀments about the clerĀgy sex abuse scanĀdal in a writĀten mesĀsage to a PeĀruĀvian jourĀnalĀist who docĀuĀmentĀed a parĀticĀuĀlarĀly egreĀgious case of abuse and fiĀnanĀcial corĀrupĀtion in a PeĀruĀvian-based Catholic moveĀment, the SoĀdalĀiĀtium ChrisĀtianae ViĀtae.
The mesĀsage was read out loud on FriĀday night in LiĀma durĀing a perĀforĀmance of a play based on the SoĀdalĀiĀtium scanĀdal and the work of the jourĀnalĀist, PaoĀla Ugaz.
