ONE of the men charged with the murder of senior counsel Dana Seetahal has emerged victorious in a civil claim he brought against the State after being beaten by prison officers during a riot by inmates at the Maximum Security Prison in Arouca six years ago.
Devaughn Cummings, who is currently on remand, sued the Office of the Attorney General alleging he was unlawfully assaulted by officers on March 17, 2020, at the height of the Covid-19 outbreak.
Inmates had attempted to escape from the facility after becoming fearful of contracting the virus. Cummings claimed that after order was restored, he was removed from his cell and unlawfully assaulted by masked officers.
